Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.
Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
