World Series Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
